A Special Celebration at CPSC

On Friday, June 12, 2009, The Children’s Pre-School Center celebrated 25 years of learning, growing, and laughing. Founded in 1984 as a corporate-supported day care facility, the Center has grown over the years to be more a child development center than a day care center. A focus of the celebration was to honor its Founder and Executive Director, Rachel Samoff. Working in early childhood education since 1964, CPSC is truly a product of her vision. For the past 25 years she has worked tirelessly to create and nurture a unique environment characterized by a widely diverse community of staff and families rich in international culture, where everyone is individually recognized and valued and children can safely learn and grow. She has provided inspired and consistent leadership to maintain CPSC’s high standard of excellence, and has earned the respect and admiration of families and teachers alike.

To commemorate this great accomplishment, a bench was presented to the Center with the following inscription:

With sincere appreciation we dedicate this bench to Rachel Samoff, Founder and Executive Director of The Children’s Pre-School Center, whose inspirational leadership for the past 25 years has nurtured children and supported families in a diverse and multicultural community.

It is hoped that the bench can be a calm place to rest, enjoy the beautiful art in the breezeway, or just set your things down for a moment to find those evasive car keys, basically providing support to teachers and parents when they need it, just as Rachel has done for the last 25 years.

Assistant Director Kim Donaldson then presented Rachel with a beautiful quilt of African colors containing blocks printed with pictures of Rachel and her family, children at the Center, and art created by various classrooms. Rachel was completely delighted and amazed by this wonderful gift.

After the presentations, the party proceeded to the Junior and Senior Preschool play yards for a delicious potluck. The energetic and fun group called “Hey Moms” entertained us with their lively music. Everyone had a fantastic time, and Rachel later related how much the celebration had personally meant to her, “that will stay with me for a long time. Thank you!”, she said!
